SAŠA SPAČAL /portfolio/
Saša Spačal lives and works in Ljubljana, Slovenia. She is a media artist and a graphic designer with background in humanities, who is currently working at the intersection of bioart, media art and real-time interactive visualization. She has expanded her formal education through various workshops of computer graphics, web, video production and biohacking.

BIOART_RESEARCH
Her work focuses primarily on the posthuman period, when human beings exist and act as one of many elements in the ecosystem and not as sovereigns. Therefore abandoning the Cartesian system of classification and accepting the fact that the field of technology has grown and expanded not only from hardware to software but also to wetware resulting in hybrid phenomena inscribed in mechanical, digital and organic logic.
In collaboration with various art producers such as Kapelica Gallery, Multimedia Center Kibla and Ljudmila – Art and Science Laboratory, she is developing media installations and other interfaces by connecting technological and biological organisms.

For the work Myconnect she was awarded Ars Electronica Honorary Mention 2015 and nominated for Prix Cube 2016 together with Mirjan Švagelj and Anil Podgornik.

SOUND_RESEARCH
In the field of interactive visualization and sound design she is developing strategies for usage of physical interfaces for generating sound and visuals as a member of Theremidi Orchestra. The orchestra performed, exhibited and held workshops at over thirty festivals, exhibitions and venues such as Eyebeam – New York, USA; Piksel Festival – Bergen, Norway; LiWoLi Festival – Linz, Austria; PoolLoop festival – Zürich, Switzerland; U3, Triennial of Contemporary Art – Resilience, Museum of Contemporary Art – Ljubljana, Slovenia; KSEVT – The Cultural Centre of European Space Technologies – Vitanje, Slovenia; Radio Študent – Ljubljana, Slovenia; Earzoom Festival – Ljubljana, Slovenia; SHARE – New York, USA; to name just a few.

ART_RESEARCH
She has taken part in exhibitions and projects in Moderna galerija, Galerija Škuc and Galerija Alkatraz. As a member of Temp group she had participated in public interventions and installations, in the development of strategies for alternative use of abandoned spaces, and in exhibitions Odprti Rog, Pogovarjanja/Conversations/Conversas, Mapiranje/arhiviranje/analiziranje izginulih prostorov umetnosti. As a researcher, she had taken part in the international research project Performing the City. Art Actionism in Public Space in 1960s/1970s that had made its rounds in Munich, Naples, São Paulo and Paris.

COMMUNITIES_AND_WORKSHOPS
In the field of bioart she is a part of Biotehna – Platform for Art Research of Living Systems, where she is a workshop developer and a mentor.
She is also developing ČIPke platform together with Ida Hiršenfelder. ČIPke is an initiative for researching the conditions of women who are active in the context of science, technology and media art. ČIPKe platform is a space for conversation about women working in these fields and a women friendly hackerspace with practical educational workshops and lectures at Rampa Lab.

DR. MIRJAN ŠVAGELJ
Mirjan Švagelj is a doctor of biomedicine currently residing in Ljubljana and working for a biotech R&D company. He finished his doctoral studies in Biomedicine at the University of Ljubljana in the field of medicinal mushrooms. He is also a member of DrogArt, a harm-reduction NGO in the field of abused drugs. He has attended several conferences and workshops in South Korea, China, Germany and Portugal in the field of biotechnology, medicine, chemical engineering and published more than 15 original papers. In the field of harm reduction he has finished a postgraduate course in the Netherlands, published 11 works and is active in public discussions.
In the context of art he worked with Polona Tratnik on the project Nomadology, 2012, which has been presented in the Gallery of Contemporary Art in Celje, Slovenia as part of exhibition Sculpture Today: A New Renaissance and Transhumanism. Since 2012 he is part of Myconnect and Mycophone_genus project with Saša Spačal and Anil Podgornik.

ANIL PODGORNIK
Anil Podgornik is a DIY enthusiast with interest in electronics, mechanics and physics. Since 2012 he has been a part of Mycophone_genus and Myconnect project.
